FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - Back to CUeCard Information

How do I activate and use my CUeCard?

To activate your CUeCard:

  1. Wait for the mailed PIN notice - The PIN is NOT the same as any current card you may have
  2. Contact the credit union, Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at 214-574-2000, or 800-388-7889, option 5 and request card activation
  3. Congratulation - your CUeCard is now active

To use your CUeCard:

  1. Be sure to have sufficient funds in your account to cover the amount of the purchase, as when writing a check.
  2. Swipe the card through the card reader or give to the cashier.
  3. Press the "credit" button or tell the cashier to process the transaction as a "credit", then sign the receipt. At a gas pump, you do not need to sign the receipt. There is no fee for using the card when you press the button for/or request "credit" transaction.
  4. Most importantly record the amount of your purchase in your check register, subtract it from your account balance and save your receipt.
REMEMBER, this amount is being electronically deducted from your checking account -- ONLINE.

When would I want to use the "debit" feature?

If you need cash back, you should use the "debit" or "ATM" button at the card reader. This transaction will require use of your 4 digit PIN (personal identification number). This transaction will not incur a fee if made on Your FCU owned ATMs. If using a foreign (machine not owned by Your FCU) ATM, you may incur fees. Ask merchants if they offer a 'cash back' option.

If I press "credit", does that mean I am charging the purchase?

No. Your CUeCard card looks like a MasterCard® Credit card, but funds are deducted directly from your checking account-no matter if you pushed "debit" or "credit". It works the same as if you had written a check-but you didn’t have to show several forms of identification! The main difference is that there is no fee if you press "credit".

Yes. If your PIN is written on your card or a person forges your name, the card may be used. Your name is on the card, but NEVER write your PIN anywhere on the card nor carry it in your wallet.

Can I have a combined monthly statement of my CUeCard and MasterCard Credit Card?

No. The two programs are totally separate -even though they both carry the MasterCard logo. The CueCard is tied directly to your checking account with the credit union. The Credit Card is tied directly to a 3rd party provider of credit cards.

May I have my credit card limit transferred to my CUeCard?

No. Traditionally, credit card limits are far higher than Debit Card limits by member choice. With a Debit Card, a stolen or lost card could give a thief access to your full checking account balance. Talk with a Member Services Representative for further counsel.
